The next exercise in the class taught by Zina Poliszuk was a snow scene with shadows. The scene was chosen from my personal photographs. Choosing my own subject is one thing I like about this class. The class is taught remotely with WebEx due to pandemic safety concerns.

Things I learned or were emphasized by this exercise:
1) Careful drawing (I enlarged the photo using a grid)
2) Water control (mainly by not doing it well)
3) I can fix things, pigment can be removed (to a certain extent)
4) Don't drop your paint filled brush on the painting.

I was unhappy with the roof of the house on the right. Of course it was the first bit of snow I painted. I was able to remove most of the pigment even after 2 weeks (dampen, then blot with a dry brush) and finally got it to the color and texture I wanted. I can now look at the painting without cringing.

I had fun with the trees in the background. I also enjoyed painting in the slender branches on the leafless bush on the left. I didn't need to do that bush, but it makes the scene more real.

My husband woke me up around 6 AM because he was able to make a vaccination appointment at the CVS pharmacy and wanted me to try to get one for myself.

It was fairly easy to book it from their web site. The only problem I had was that I didn't understand the question about "priority group". First, I answered no to being in a priority group, and they wouldn't schedule an appointment, even though I put my age in a field. I looked up what a priority group was and realized that 65 and over put me in the priority group. So I tried again indicating I was in a priority group and then it let me choose which one (65-74 was one of the selections)

So, now I have made my two vaccination appointments at a convenient location. It is the Moderna vaccine. Once I receive the vaccine, I need to figure out how to get off the two other lists I signed up for. The second shot is April 1. I will be glad to be immune before the summer and look forward to traveling again.

I know I will still need to wear a mask to protect others, but I will no longer be fearful of breathing the same air as strangers.

Update: 3 hours after I made the CVS appointment, I received an email from the county health department giving me a link to request a vaccination appointment. I won't sign up unless CVS fails.
